When it comes to women empowerment, Victoria Beckham ranks high on the list of inspiring female success stories.
The British beauty’s sense of style, passion, drive, marketing skills, and clever business savvy have led to a long list of accomplishments including fashion designer, model, singer, author, and mom of four.
“For a long time there, I was a bit of a laughingstock,” she said in an interview with Business of Fashion. “And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now.”
In 2011 the decorated designer and wife of retired soccer star David Beckham won Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards and in 2014 she was crowned Britain’s most successful entrepreneur by Management Today.
“It really was just about focus. It was about being aware of people’s preconceptions and just really working really, really hard – not to prove anything to anybody else really. I wanted to prove it to myself. It started with ‘Girl Power’ and now it’s about empowering women through fashion, making them feel like the best most beautiful empowered version of themselves”, she said about her own fashion line.
“It’s about giving my customer each season what she wants. And I work very closely with my retail partners and I use social media also to really get to know my customers. So I know what she likes, what she wants out of her collection each season and it’s getting that balance between having those commercial pieces and having the fashion pieces as well.”, she added.
In addition to her success in the fashion world Beckham has been featured in five official documentaries about her and her life – Victoria’s Secrets in 2000, Being Victoria Beckham in 2002, The Real Beckhams in 2003, Full Length & Fabulous: The Beckhams’ 2006 World Cup Party and the Victoria Beckham: Coming to America in 2007. She also appeared in an episode of the ABC TV series Ugly Betty in 2007 and was a guest judge on the finale of the fourth season of Project Runway in 2008 and a guest judge on American Idol in 2010.
She is also a best-selling author, so if you need inspiration, you are in the right place!
