Capsule wardrobe and minimalism: 5 Items you have to get rid of

If your closet is full of things you haven’t worn in more than 2 years, you have to do something about it. Either because they don’t fit anymore, or you’ve just moved past that style, some items of clothes have to go –believe me, it’s liberating.

You might already be familiar with the concept of a capsule closet, and if you aren’t, I highly recommend checking our article on how to build one. Once I understood the concept and kept a few items I do use every day, has been one of the best decisions I’ve taken: it saves time, space and clears your mind from clutter. But before, you have to start by getting rid of elements you no longer need –here are some options to do it sustainably.

1. The same item in different colors

I know how tempting it is to buy different colors of the same T-shirt that you love so much. Let’s be honest, you’ll end up using one or two of them and the rest will remain in your closet causing clutter.

2. Clothes that don’t fit

I know, you’ve got that beautiful expensive dress you wish someday you’ll be able to use again. Well, don’t. Sell it, donate it, or give it to a friend that will actually use it.

3. Worn out underwear

Please, let them go. Choose a few bras and panties that fit you and take care of them properly, so you lengthen their life.

4. Any item you haven’t pulled out for more than 6 months

Keep items you use regularly.

If you haven’t worn it whatever the reason might be, likely, you won’t use it again. So let it go.

5. Items you’ve promised to repair and never have

Make it a rule: get it hemmed, patched, cleaned or whatever the item requires, but don’t hold on to it for longer than 2 months, it is very likely that you never will.

Having less items will allow you to create more outfits and you will make you save time.
