Boost your workout with a small accessory.
Walking is a great activity that can help you burn calories, stay in shape and improve your mental health. All that for free! Just 10 minutes of brisk walking a day will make a huge difference, although the World Health Organization recommends at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity per week. Jessica Alba is a strong supporter of this routine and to make her walks more challenging, she’s added one detail: ankle weights. But Alba is not the first celebrity to use ankle weights. Selena Gomez, Alexis Ren and Hailey Bieber have all been spotted working out with weights.
Will ankle weights really make a difference?
Exercising with weights is known to improve strength and endurance as well as maintain bone density. And ankle weights are a great way to make your exercise routine a bit more challenging. If you're a total beginner, just a brisk walk around your local park will already feel challenging enough.
But if you are looking to boost your workouts, this might be a good way to go. Ankle weights are not only limited to walking. They can be used for a variety of exercises, such as donkey kicks, high knees and sidekicks among others. Add some wrist weights to that and you have a full-body weighted workout.
It's important you do all exercises correctly in order to prevent injury. Watch your form and posture and stop if you feel any discomfort.
The best thing about ankle weights is that they take up very little space, which is a win-win for those working out from home. Kaya Itsines even travels with a pair of ankle weights!
