While our bodies are naturally designed to detox, we are usually so overloaded with toxins that we need to help it a little bit. Yoga is a popular practice to do this, but does it really work this way?
In order to help your body detox, you need to eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. However, sometimes this is just not enough and we need a little extra push. That's when yoga comes in really handy. Why? well, because with certain asanas or poses, you can "squeeze" the remaining toxins and help your body get rid of them.
What are the best detoxing poses?
Twists are the most beneficial for detoxing your body, as they literally squeeze your organs. It sounds awful, but what this actually means is that by twisting, your blood flow goes into your liver, gall bladder, stomach, spleen, and intestines. This allows fresh blood to enter your organs, removing toxins while at it. The best twisting poses are Marichyasana C, Pavirtta Utkatasana, and Pavirtta Trikonasana.
These work two ways: while they are excellent for strengthening your back, they also add some pressure on your abdomen, encouraging digestion. Great poses for this are Cobra, Salabhasana, and Ustrasana.
Inversion might be tricky for rookies, but they are definitely a must if you want to come up with an excellent detox routine. They drain lymph fluids from your legs and re-circulate through the body. This is a huge boost to your immune system. But in case this is not enough reason for you, inversions also stimulate your thyroid, which will boost your metabolism. Try Sirsasana, Sarvangasana, or Viparita Karani!
