Improve the health of your thyroid with these 5 yoga poses.
Yoga brings many benefits to your health and it’s great for fighting stress and long, hard, exhausting days.
Several studies have shown the positive effect of yoga on improving thyroid function. Keep in mind that these poses cannot cure your thyroid imbalance but they will certainly help you feel better.
1. Supported shoulder stand
The most suggested pose to treat this issue is this one. As it’s an inversion, it stimulates blood flow to the glands in the upper body. This is believed to have a positive effect on the efficiency of the thyroid. Additionally, the way your chin is tucked into your chest in this position is believed to benefit thyroid function.
2. Plow pose
In plow pose, your thyroid is believed to get the same stimulation as it does in the shoulder stand. You may find it easier to do the plow pose.
Fish pose is the counterpose to shoulder stand. It’s more accessible and can also be done on its own. These two poses are the most effective for improving thyroid function. As your head hangs back in fish pose, you stimulate your thyroid by exposing the throat area.
Legs-up-the-wall pose, aka Viparita Karani, is a restorative inversion. It’s suitable for most people and it doesn’t put pressure on the neck. Excellent choice since it’s passive and helps to restore your balance.
The fluid motion in cat-cow pose can also stimulate your thyroid. Drawing your chin into your chest and then exposing your throat chakra brings blood flow to this area. This pose also increases mental clarity and enhances energy. Focus your awareness on your throat area as you move through this pose.
