Having an altar is an absolute must for modern witches, luckily, you needn’t overspend to make some magick. This is how to create your altar with little or no money.
Altars are present in most magicak traditions, but if you are a beginner this is how to create one.
What is an altar?
An altar is a sacred place to do your rituals and where you keep your crystals. Altars needn’t be too elaborate it should be something that feels right for you.
How to create an altar
Search for a corner of your house that you like, find a physical space –think of a shelf or a table– that you can dedicate for your magickal working and only that.
Cleanse your space with sage, or toss some salt and throw it away after you’ve cleansed it.
You can cover the space with some cloth if you like it, but it is not necessary.
Once you’ve prepared your space, you need to find the representation of the four ingredients: Earth, Water, Fire and Air.
Crystals typically represent earth, a feather or bell air. Candles are great because they represent all elements, the melting wax water, the fire, the wick earth, and air.
It is recommended to place your elements in the cardinal directions according to the elements. Place your representation of the earth in the north, the air in the east, fire in the south, and water in the west, the center should be reserved for your ritual.
It is also a place where you live your magical tools such as pendulum, other crystals, oracle, tarot, or wands.
The idea is that an altar is dynamic, not a place to leave your magickal tools unmoved. You can clean it up, create a new one, rearrange it –just do what feels right for you!
