Earlier this week, Kim Kardashian announced on Instagram that, after 7 seasons, the show was coming to an end in 2021.
After 13 years of a reality show that, we know now, wasn’t very real, it is safe to assume that the Kardashian clan has had more impact on our lives than the one you could expect from any television show.
It is weird —and unexpected— to think that the already-rich family rose to fame thanks (so to speak) to a sex-tape leak. And from there on, they took over the world. But there is way more to the clan than what they have decided to show us on TV. As simple as it might seem, we have been witnesses of their own transformation, at the same time they transformed our lives.
From the way we dress to the way we wear our makeup, there is no denying that the Kardashians have done more than many other brands. And it shows on how they transformed their own image. Let’s not forget that the first seasons were clearly a way of showing that we were dealing with the classic tacky, millionaire, poor-tasted spoiled family who wore nothing but extra-tight animal print dresses. But, where are they now? They have become fashion icons, they have their own successful businesses, and they have collaborations with other brands. You can see them on the cover of a Vogue magazine and each of them would be a perfect fit for it.
But not only fashion-wise, their influence has also gone a step further, changing the way we see our bodies. Yes, it is a controversial matter: they have transformed their bodies with a rather large set of plastic surgeries, managing to custom-create a body image that is unrealistic. However, it is undeniable that we have gone from ultra-skinny models to accepting different body types and big booties thanks to the infamous hourglass shape of Kim Kardashian, who was picked by the finest designers to wear their dresses —and that we hadn’t seen before.
It is also worth mentioning that we have all changed the way we do our makeup thanks to the Kardashians. Products like Kylie’s lip kits, or Kim introducing us to the world of contouring and highlights back in 2008. And it doesn’t seem like it is going to end anytime soon, even if the show does.
All in all, the Kardashians have done more for the world’s fashion industry than many other influencers, so it is up to us to find new ways of keeping up with them.
