Volcanic ash has been on the spot for a long time due to its oil-clearing properties. This is what experts have to say about it.
Whether you know it or not, volcanic ashes –yes coming from an actual volcano– have been included in our lotions, masks, cleansers for a bit now, and there is a good reason why. While there might be some questions about how it’s sourced, there are several skin benefits to it.
What is it?
Volcanic ash is a mixture of minerals, rock and glass particles expelled from a volcano, it is a combination of Sulphur and bentonite clay. Its particles are highly porous and tine, thus they are extremely absorbent –which makes it great to clear off the oil and sebum buildup in your face.
It has anti-inflammatory properties and soothes inflamed skin, eczema and psoriasis. Volcanic ash works like clay: it soaks up all the sebum and impurities and it is great for acne-prone skin. it also has antiseptic, antibacterial and antioxidants properties, but if your skin is dry, do not overdo it, because it will further dry your skin.
The best option is to use it as a mask to brighten your skin, do not use it more than once a week, because it could be stripping.
