What is a serum? We know they are good for our skin, but you might not know exactly why. This powerful product does wonder when treating dark spots, wrinkles, fine lines, acne and redness if you choose the right one.
We already know that serums are potent potions to tackle lots of skin concerns, but you’ve probably asked yourself what it actually is –don’t worry, a lot of people do.
All to know about serums
Serums are light skincare products packed with active ingredients whose molecules are small enough to penetrate deeper into the skin –and this is key, as cleansers and moisturizers might share the same actives but their molecules are bigger.
What’s the difference between serum, moisturizer and oil?
While serums target specific skin concerns, moisturizers act as a barrier for the skin, locking in the moisture –both complement each other. On the other hand, oils and serums have a very similar consistency, but they are not interchangeable. Oils are used to soften skin and help trap moisture into the skin, but their formulas don’t contain actives to target skin concerns.
When to apply serums
Skincare routines contain so many skincare products that it is confusing to know what’s the best order. Serums must be applied to clean, freshly washed skin so they penetrate deeper into the skin.
A good idea is to apply your products from the thinnest to the thickest –leave aside your cleanser, it always goes first. So, you should first apply the serum and then moisturizer to lock in the moisture.
