Who doesn't know the importance of using sunscreen to protect our skin from the sun's rays? However, we may never have considered what effects such sunscreen can have on the planet. Especially in marine ecosystems
In any case, if you want to enjoy a few days of rest on the beach, taking refreshing dives into the sea and relaxing walks along the shore while taking care of both your skin and the environment, we can only advise you to make your own sunscreen. In this way, you will ensure that it does not contain any substances that are harmful to marine ecosystems!
Recipe for making an eco-friendly sunscreen
The necessary ingredients are as follows:
- Vegetable oil (your choice; can be sesame, olive, rosehip or aloe vera)
- 30 g beeswax
- 30 g shea butter
- 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil
- 2 tablespoons of zinc
Put the vegetable oil you have chosen, the beeswax and the shea butter into the bain-marie until it is homogeneously mixed.
Leave to warm up for a few minutes and add the rest of the ingredients, mixing well again. Try not to make the cream too thick, as it will harden a little when it cools down.
As you have seen, natural cosmetics are less aggressive to the skin, and therefore take more care of it.
Thus, if we cannot avoid many hours of sun exposure, we recommend biodegradable sunscreens containing zinc oxide, which is a physical filter from the sun's rays. These are the ones climbers use to protect their skin.
The disadvantage? That they are visible. But it's worth it if you want to take care of your health and the planet, don't you think?
