Simple kitchen staples have long been used to aid hair growth, making your locks look and feel amazing. This is particularly important during the winter months, as our hair suffers from the cold weather, rain and snow, the wind, and the extra stress we all experience from waking up while it's still dark outside. So today we give you three awesome recipes for homemade hair masks so you can properly pamper your hair on a relaxing night in.
1. Honey hair mask for boosting growth
We have previously spoken about how many benefits honey contains. Amongst its many properties, is its ability to influence hair growth and shine. Now combine it with onion and you won't believe the results. Onions have long been used to boost hair strength, mainly due to their high content of antioxidants.
Method
Step 1
Place a container with two to three tablespoons of honey in a hot bowl of water to warm it up.
Step 2
Grate one onion, then stir it into the melted honey.
Step 3
Apply it to your scalp and leave it on for an hour before rinsing with shampoo as usual.
2. Honey and cinnamon hair mask for extra length
Cinnamon is known to stimulate blood circulation and promote hair growth and strength. What's more, it is a powerful anti-microbial and it means that it can also prevent buildup on the scalp from common problems that cause hair loss like dandruff and fungal infections. Mix it with the super hydrating coconut oil and your hair will thank you.
Method
Step 1
Blend cinnamon (3 to 5 drops cinnamon essential oil OR ¼ tablespoon ground cinnamon) and coconut oil.
Step 2
Apply the mask onto your roots and part, and massage it into your scalp. Leave on for 30 to 45 minutes and rinse.
Try to do this mask at least once a week.
3. Avocado, egg, and olive oil mask for damaged hair
There are many reasons why your hair can be damaged: the use of styling tools, the environment, chemical treatments and even stress. So here is a natural solution to fix your hair.
Ingredients
1 avocado
1 egg
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 tablespoon of honey
Method
Step 1
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl.
Step 2
Wet your hair and apply the mask with your fingertips -start at the bottom and go up.
Step 3
Wrap your hair with a shower cap or a bun
Step 4
Blow-dry your shower cap-covered hair for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Let it sit for another 20 minutes and wash your hair in the shower.
