I know, you probably already have avocado oil, macadamia oil, almond oil and rosehip oil, and all of them can benefit your skin and body. Here is what apricot oil can do for your hair!
You might already be using oils to make seal the moisture –liquid/leave-in conditioner, oil and cream. This makes your hair softer and also locks in the moisture. Apricot oil is rich in fatty acids that can help your hair and scalp as well.
It works as a Humectant
Apricot oil is packed with linoleic and oleic acid. Both compounds work as emollients that make hair and scalp softer and pliable. Apricot oil not only seals the moisture in but it also absorbs water from the humidity of the air, thus it works great to maintain the barrier of hydration in the strand of hair and scalp.
Vitamins for softer, shiny and moisturized hair
Apricot has high concentrations of vitamin A that stimulates collagen and the omega-3 fatty acids decrease the inflammation that could lead to scalp issues and hair thinning or loss. It also contains vitamin which is essential for your scalp to be healthy –a healthy scalp implies healthy hair.
How to use it
Oil is great for curly and coily hair textures –it is great to moisturize dry or irritated scalp. But do not simply apply to the hair as it just adds another layer to clean off the hair. Built-up products make the hair appear dull and weigh it down. It is better to apply to clean hair to remove any remaining hair products.
Apply the oil as a pre-poo treatment and leave it overnight for up to 30 minutes before washing it. As it is an excellent carrier oil, it can be mixed with other essential oils to distribute properties. You can also try adding a few drops to your mixture.
