Have you ever stopped to notice that some ingrained habits can be causing your face to wrinkle without even noticing? Here’s a guide to avoiding them.
We might have some habits that come as natural for us and we would never have imagined they had anything to do with skin aging. However, there are some significant links to the occurrence of wrinkles and fine lines and the following “apparently harmless” habits:
Sipping out of a straw
Fortunately, the use of plastic straws has been banned in many countries, a great thing for the environment and your skin as well. When drinking from a straw, you pucker your lips in a repetitive motion. Eventually, this increases the formation of wrinkles around the mouth.
Smiling too much
The pull of gravity added to the repetitive movements of your face muscles can break down collagen in your skin and create lines. However, wrinkles are bound to appear someday, so I would prefer them to be because I have led a happy life. So smile on!
Chewing gum
This doesn’t go for the occasional gum chewer, people who chew gum every day have a certain pattern of wrinkles around their mouths. Then limit the amount of chewing gum if you are having it daily.
Overusing your phone
Especially these last years, we’ve all been staring at our necks through video calls for several hours a day or simply spending time on social media. But this might lead to the occurrence of horizontal neck wrinkles. So try to limit your time on your phone.
Not eating healthy fats
This is how it goes: you are trying to cut down on calories and the first thing you do is completely cut off all fats, well, don’t. The consumption of healthy fats like olive oil, avocado and nuts will nourish your skin and prevent the early appearance of wrinkles.
So next time you start a diet, chew gum, spend hours on your phone or sip from a straw, think twice!
