3 Ways to apply liquid foundation for a flawless complexion

There is no right or wrong when it comes to makeup, it is all about doing what feels right for you. Whether you prefer to use your hands or a sponge, here a guide to foundation application!

When you are new to makeup, and especially to foundation, liquid foundation is the last one to try. Cream or mousse formulas are easier to approach –you can apply some of the product on the back of your hand and then start dabbing it onto your skin with your fingers. Powder foundations are also relatively simple to apply, you can use the sponge included in the compact and tap the product over your T-zone. But when it comes down to liquid foundation, it is a bit more complicated to make it look seamless. Here is how I deal with liquid foundation!

Powder foundations are also relatively simple to apply, you can use the sponge included in the compact and tap the product over your T-zone

Sponge application

Dab the sponge gently onto your face.

This is my favorite option, though it might not be the only option I choose. For an airbrushed finish, make sure you take your Beautibblender –or similar sponge– is wet, this will minimize product absorption and will be key to even coverage.

  1. Damp it under the sink for a few minutes until you feel the sponge is saturated.
  2. Apply a bit of foundation on the back of your hand and dip the sponge into the liquid, then dab it gently onto your face.
  3. Apply the product to even out your skin tone, start working your way from your neckline and focus on the areas you need to illuminate.

Finger application

Your fingertips work perfectly when warming up the product and giving it a more natural finish.

Don’t underestimate the power of your hands for makeup application –whether you are patting some lipstick or swiping on cream blush, fingers are very useful. Your fingertips work perfectly when warming up the product and giving it a more natural finish.

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly and wash it in between steps to avoid color transfer and germs.
  2. With your dry hands apply a bit of foundation onto the back of the hand, dip your fingers and spread it around your skin starting in your T-zone. Just make sure you blend the edges.

Brush application

First of all, choose a brush that has thin synthetic bristles.

First of all, choose a brush that has thin synthetic bristles –on top of being cruelty-free, it will ensure the product is not absorbed by the bristles. A fluffy powder brush will make it easier for the foundation to blend.

  1. Apply a bit of the product on the back of your hand, dip the brush and start working your way from the T-zone outwards until you’ve covered all the areas that need to be even out.

Before applying foundation with any technique, you have to prep your skin –cleanse, apply toner, serum, and moisturizer. This will make your foundation look seamless.
