Lettuce water first became trendy in TikTok, and people claim it makes them sleep better, but is that so?
Lettuce water is essentially a tea made with roman lettuce and drunk when it is still hot. While there is no scientific evidence to back the fat that lettuce might make you sleep better, it is true that lettuce contains lactucin and lactucpicrin, both known to enhance sleep. Lettuce has been used for centuries as a natural sedative and pain reliever in folk medicine, but there is still a lot of research to be done.
The good thing is that there is absolutely no harm in preparing some lettuce tea, and it does not taste as bad as one might have expected it to do.
It is said that red romaine is the kind that has the highest concentration of sleep-inducing compounds. I like adding chamomile to make it taste better and for some relaxing boost as well. I don't know if it actually works, or it is the placebo effect, but it is worth giving it a try.
