Peanut butter is one of my favorite snacks, but I’ve always been cautious about it –but did you know it has a few health benefits and it can actually help you lose weight?
Ok, I know few people who do not like peanut butter –I actually believe it is everyone’s favorite spread. Nine out of ten of us eat it straight out of the jar!
We have already agreed that it is absolutely delicious, but what are its benefits? Let’s see!
1. It helps in weight loss
It turns out that eating peanuts and other types of nuts can help you lose weight, who would have imagined it? This is because peanuts make you feel fuller for longer as they are high in protein, fat and fiber. Research has shown that those who replaced a serving of meat, chips, or deserts with a serving of nuts, were less likely to gain weight and it reduces the risk of being overweight. Of course, it should be eating in moderation, as it is a high-calorie food, but the truth is that it helps you feel fuller for longer periods.
2. It is great after working out
As for every 100 grams of peanut butter, there are 27 grams of protein, it makes a perfect post-workout snack –proteins help the body repair muscles.
3. It is said to lower heart risk
Peanut butter contains monounsaturated fatty acids –the ‘good fats’ like the such that are found in olive oil and avocados. These nutrients can improve the heart as they support normal cholesterol levels.
4. It helps keep sugar levels controlled
Peanut butter is low in carbs and, unless you choose one with added sugar, it will not affect your blood glucose levels –thus, it is an excellent snack for people who suffer from diabetes.
5. It may help prevent breast cancer
Research carried out by the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment suggests that eating peanut butter and nuts at any age may result in a lower risk of developing benign breast disease –or BDD– by the age of 30. BBD increases your risk of breast cancer.
6. Peanut butter is packed with nutrients
It contains vitamin E, B3, B6, and magnesium.
So go grab your peanut butter jar and enjoy your healthy snack!
