Let me paint you the picture, you’ve been working out for months and, while you know you won’t see any results overnight, how do you know if all that effort is paying off?
Of course, there are many more benefits to exercise than seeing changes in your body, but it’s easy to feel discouraged with your workout routine if you fail to notice the results.
The first 2 weeks are the most difficult. You first need to break old habits, incorporate new habits and you won’t see the results right away. It is important to focus on how exercise makes you feel. These are other ways to notice if your workouts are working:
1. You are feeling optimistic
Exercise releases endorphins –these hormones that improve mood, boost energy, and trigger positive feelings. You can try keeping a workout journal –write down how you feel before and after working out.
2. You feel the energy
Expect to feel the serotonin rush after you’ve worked out. You’ll feel energized and happy.
3. You sleep better
Exercising is paramount to sleeping better. Your body rests better if you make workouts part of your routine.
4. Dumbbells don’t seem to weigh so much
Your typical pace or weights will feel more comfortable as you work out and you’ll be slowly but steadily increasing the intensity of your exercise.
5. You look forward to doing exercise
Regular exercise improves cognitive skills, and makes you feel enthusiastic too. If in the past you dreaded going to the gym and now you get up full of energy because you know you have to go to your class, you are on the right track.
