A beginner’s guide on how to cast spells: all to know about being a modern witch!

When we talk about spell casting you probably imagine an old witch stirring a potion in a cauldron tossing some bones and beetles. Well, don’t. Learn how to create your personal spells with ingredients you can find at home and rock your spells like a modern witch.

Casting a spell is not as complicated as in the movies: you don’t need bones, human blood, hairs or any weird ingredient. If you have made a wish over your birthday candles, tossed a coin in a fountain or written somebody’s name together with yours on a paper, you have already done it.

Humans have explored their manifestation techniques for thousands of years. Before we start to dive into spellcraft, we should define the word “magick.”

Magick explained

The term “Magick,“ coined by Aleister Crowley, describes any act of true will different from performance magic. Magick is defined as the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with will. It is a method to reach a true understanding of the self and act according to that. there are three types of magickal practices:

How do we cast a spell?

Casting a spell is basically identifying, raising and directing your energy –no rules or books are required to do so, the only thing that you need is your magickal intention. Objects are not inherently magick, they are used to channel our own energy.

Mystical devices

The good thing is that you do not need to purchase anything. Any spice or any candle can be transformed into a magickal device with intention. Once you have deemed an object as enchanted, it will always remain magickal. Just say what your intention for the object is, and that’s it! You have infused your object with magick!

Location

When you choose where to perform your incantation, you can choose doors, windows or cracks in surfaces as they serve as portals to other worlds.

Time

The time when you perform your spell can also influence the power of it. If you choose to do it in the intersection between day and night or seasonal equinoxes they will become stronger. Close any door you open by closing your spell: a simple goodbye will do.

Things to avoid

Do not use the same object for different purposes, because tools maintain energy –a dish that you use to eat should never contain a candle that you infused with energy.

Law of threefold return: whatever energy you direct will be returned to you with three times more power –so never cast a spell intending to cause harm.

Spells are fun, mystic and empowering, just make up your own!
