Ultra-processed food doesn't have just one identifiable solid ingredient, they contain high amounts of refined substances and food preservatives. Ultra-processed foods are made mostly from substances extracted from foods, such as fats, starches, added sugars, and hydrogenated fats. They may also contain additives like artificial colors and flavors or stabilizers.
Lately, some scientific publications prooves that high consumption of ultra-processed food (more than three times a day) deteriorates the telomeres in cells and accelerates their shortening.
Also, it is known that processed food is unhealthy for the digestive system as they are low in fiber. Fiber promotes bowel movements and it is an important food source for beneficial bacteria in the large intestine.
Ultra-processed foods may increase the risk of obesity, high blood pressure, and levels of cholesterol. Definitely, they are not good for the body. An unhealthy diet can result in a myriad of health problems.
