Obesity is one of the biggest contributors to COVID death rates, how important is it to lose weight safely and quickly.
The head of the WHO –the World Health Organization, commented that the correlation between obesity and mortality rates from Covid-19 is clear. Those countries with the highest obesity levels make up 90% of global deaths caused by Covid.
Now, how safe is it to lose weight rapidly?
Well, there is a widespread belief that you are bound to rebound. But there is sufficient evidence that shows that if it is done properly, it is safe and even more effective. Researchers in Australia took 200 obese volunteers and put half of them on an 800-calorie a day diet and the other half on a 500-calorie diet a day for 36 weeks. There was a high dropout rate among the first group –more than half of them gave up because they were frustrated by the process. On the other hand, 80% of the other group continued. After three years, they discovered that those on the rapid weight loss program were less likely to drop out and more likely to achieve the target.
Rapid weight loss studies consider an 800 calories a day program that leads to rapid weight loss but ensures the necessary nutrients, and when combined with intermittent fasting and the Mediterranean diet showed promising results. In case you worry about feeling hungry while fasting, but most people said that in a short time their hungry passes and they reported positive impacts on their emotional and mental wellbeing with no significant side effects.
This program is not suitable for everyone, it is recommended for people who are significantly overweight and only for up to 12 weeks. Always make sure you consult a healthcare expert before embarking on any diet.
