Companies are starting to make important decisions to curb the effects of waste on the environment. Every year we produce 2.1 billion pieces of waste, enough to fill almost one million swimming pools with waste. Look at what some big companies are doing.
It is estimated that more than 200 kilos of plastic are thrown into the sea and oceans every second, 70% of which goes to the bottom of the sea and 15% remains floating.
To address this issue, environmental programs and partnerships with organizations have been put in place.
The Swiss dairy multinational Nestlé decided not to give up and to join the fight to clean up the planet by installing reusable and refillable pet care dispensers and soluble coffee.
The first reusable and refillable dispensers were placed in three Nestlé stores in Switzerland. The intention is to extend the initiative to other cities, offering consumers an experience of reusable packaging, along with flexibility and product variety.
How does it work?
Simple. Consumer can refill their own containers at the stores them with various types of pet food and Nescafé instant coffee.
They can also access the Nestle's website , where information they would normally find in the packaging is available (e.g. ingredients, nutritional values and shelf life).
During the four-month trial, the brand noted a positive reaction from consumers, who welcomed the dispensers very well. Hence, expansion plans are already in motion for the initiative.
