The number of calories you need to eat a day can vary depending on several factors. Here is a guide to your daily calorie intake!
Your age, height, weight, activity level and metabolic health all play a major role in determining the number of calories you should eat a day.
The general rule is that if you want to lose some weight you should reduce your calorie intake to 500 fewer calories than what your body needs to maintain your weight. Do you know what calories are? A calorie is a unit that measures the energy content of foods and beverages, and if you want to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than your body burns each day.
Calorie intake for women
An active woman, on average, between the ages of 26-50 needs around 2000 calories a day to maintain her weight and to lose a pound or (o.45 kg) a week she needs 1500 calories a day. If you walk more than 3 miles a day, you need at least 1700 calories to lose the same amount of weight. Women over 50 require 1800 calories a day to maintain their weight. This does not apply if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Calorie intake for men
An active man between the ages of 26-45 needs around 2600 calories per day to maintain his weight and 2100 to lose 1 pound/0.45 kg per week.
Active men who walk more than 3 miles a day will need up to 3000 calories a day to maintain their weight and anywhere between 2300 or 2500 calories a day to lose 1 pound or 0.45 kg a week.
