Health Benefits of Masala Tea (recipe included)

Masala is very popular in India, owing to its amazing taste and aroma. Only one cup of masala tea a day can prevent several health conditions, and keep you healthy.

In Hindi "Masala" means mixture and "Chai" means tea. As its name explains, this typical South Indian infusion consists of a drink made from aromatic herbs and tea leaves. Although there are many variations among its ingredients, the most traditional version is presented here.

What do you need?

Recipe: Boil the water in a saucepan. Add the tea, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger, pepper, and star anise, and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the vegetable milk (it can be coconut milk or almond milk) and let it boil again. Remove from the heat and strain the infusion before serving.

The combination of Masala Chai ingredients, essential in Ayurveda medicine, helps maintain good health: it stimulates and strengthens the respiratory system and, due to its anti-inflammatory characteristics, reduces muscle and joint pain. It's ideal to drink after a yoga practice.

Cinnamon: Relieves digestive discomfort, colds, and mouth infections. It helps control blood sugar and promotes circulation and is good for treating menstrual problems. It works as an aphrodisiac.

Ginger: Digestive, helps fight dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. It increases body temperature and sweating, making it ideal for treating cold and flu conditions, as well as cold hands and feet.
