Might the position in which you sleep be damaging your skin? Let’s analyze to what extent we should worry and what we can do about it.
Getting quality sleep is paramount for healthy, glowy skin; unless you sleep at least eight hours, it is easy to notice dark circles, dull skin, and pale skin.
Experts have found that some people who sleep on one side of their faces, tend to present more lines of expression, deeper sagging of the skin, and more wrinkles on only one side.
The reason for the asymmetry in their wrinkles is mainly due to the pressure applied to the skin while we sleep. However, experts wouldn’t state that this is something we should be concerned about. Several other factors affect much more our skin health: smoking, stress, alcohol, or sleep deprivation are contribute to skin aging far greater.
Experts recommend tackling more important factors first: wear sun protection, control your stress, reduce alcohol consumption, avoid smoking, eat healthily, and sleep well.
If you are already taking care of the latter, the best position for sleeping is on the back: it avoids applying pressure on your face, also your face won’t touch the pillowcase preventing the exchange of oils and dirt that make cause skin irritation.
It might be difficult to adopt a new position to sleep, but you can give it a try!
