If you are super into K-beauty –if you aren’t, you should! – you must have heard about slugging, but, why is it so popular?
K-beauty has come into the western world to stay, and there is a reason why: it promotes glowy, dewy skin and we love it, but, what is slugging and why is it so popular?
What is slugging?
The term was originally coined by K-beauty and became popular thanks to Reddit, slugging consists of taking petrolatum or Vaseline-based creams and coating your face before going to bed to protect your skin barrier.
Though the word “petrolatum” might sound a bit odd, it’s perfectly safe, it is actually used by dermatologists on small babies with eczema. It is true, though, that if your skin is oily, it might be a bit too occlusive, but other than that, it’s perfectly safe.
How to start “slugging”
After finishing your skincare routine, use a small amount (pea-sized) of petrolatum over your face to lock all the products and prevent them from evaporating. In the morning your skin will appear less tight and it will straighten your skin barrier.
This is crucial to protect your skin from environmental pollution and prevent leaky skin.
Who should stay away from it?
Petrolatum is not comedogenic, but if you are acne-prone, it is better to avoid anything that can be occlusive.
Make sure to consult a specialist if you have any questions or special skin needs.
