Especially during the lockdown, we’ve been forced to stare at our electronic devices most of the day. But what are the consequences for our skin?
Some studies have proved that the blue light emitted by our devices can cause harm to our skin and eyes. Blue light can accelerate skin aging and lead to discoloration and inflammation.
How are we exposed to blue light?
Blue light is a high-energy visible light present in daylight, fluorescent lamps, and led devices –computer screens, television sets, and smartphones–.
The biggest source of blue light is the sun, but we are used to –or at least we should be– using sunscreen when we are exposed to it. As we check our smartphones on average from 150 to 30 times a day –millennials being at the top of the list– and we are exposed to computers more than ever in human history, we are more at risk.
How to prevent damage
You can get a blue light screen protector for your devices. Night modes of smartphones turn off the blue light and allow a much gentler light for our eyes and skin.
Wear sunscreen and sunglasses when exposed to blue light, and make sure you look at your phone from an arm’s length.
