Are washing your hair too much? Here´s the answer

With these tips, you can distinguish the fine line between affecting your hair's health and having a heavy-looking mane.

How often should I wash my hair?

The answer is not straightforward, I regret to tell you. We need to consider several aspects because it will depend mostly on your specific hair needs. For example, not washing your hair enough can cause dandruff, irritation, and even hair loss. But washing all the time can lead to an increase in oil production and scalp inflammation. Here you'll find our guidelines according to your hair type:

1- Thick hair

Thick hair

Denser hair follicles tend to hide oil better than thinner hair, so if it doesn't look greasy, don't wash it more than two times a week.

2- Damaged hair

When you've damaged your hair by coloring it or styling it with heat, your cuticles will be open and the hair will look dry, brittle and dull. In order not to further damage your hair you should wash it once every 2 or 3 days and go for a sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo.

3- Thin hair

If you have fine hair, you must resist the urge to wash it every day –I know it's quite tough because even if your hair is not that oily, fine hair tends to look greasy very easily. But washing it every day will only worsen the situation as shampoo will remove the natural oils and as a reaction, it'll produce even more sebum. Try washing it every other day and use a dry shampoo in your roots if it looks too oily –I promise, it'll look better when your hair gets used to your new schedule.

4- Oily hair

If your hair is oily keep your washing to every other day and make sure you use a sulfate-free clarifying shampoo that’ll break down oils without stripping your hair.
