4 Tips to prevent your nail polish from chipping

There is something beautiful about a fresh mani, it has the power to change one's mood, but what happens when out of the blue it chips the day after you've put all of that work on your nails.

4 Tips to prevent your nail polish from chipping

Tip 1: Make your nails hydrophobic

For years we've been using water to soften the cuticles and make it easier to remove them, but the fact is that the more you soak your hands, the more likely your nail plate is to expand and eventually cause chippings, making them brittle or even cause hangnails. So opt for a waterless manicure and make sure to wear gloves if you are going to soak your hands.

Tip 2: Buff the nail plate before

Buffing your nails before applying any product will provide a smooth canvas for your polish to glide and it will also remove oils that could prevent the polish from sticking properly.

Tip 3: Make sure to use a topcoat and a base

A base and a topcoat will extend your manicure, it is key to preventing cracking or chipping. You can even reapply your topcoat every other day to make it last longer.

Tip 4: Don't touch your cuticles

We tend to apply the last layer of the nail polish carelessly just because it is transparent, but applying any nail polish on your cuticles will make it easier for the paint to lift and eventually chip away, so you want the polish only to touch the nail plate and not your skin.
