I know what it feels like wanting to have a change in life and hair is one of the easiest ways to make a noticeable change in our appearance. But if you want to successfully transition to blonde hair, this is what you have to know.
I’ve recently got an appointment with my colorist because I wanted the E-girl bangs hair, much to my disappointment she said she wouldn’t do it in one session. As I trust her a lot, and I decided to change it to light brown bangs streaks –this is why!
1. Your hair must be in good condition
There are 10 levels of hair color from dark brown to light blonde –and you need to go through all of them for the pigment to be lifted. This causes damage to your hair, you should only go 2 shades in each session and never apply bleach to already compromised hair. My base is dark brown and my colorist didn’t recommend a dramatic change.
2. Choose the right shade
You should pick a tone that flatters you. There are tones of blondes, choose one that goes well with your complexion.
3. Take your colorist’s advice
Ask your colorist whether it is a good idea to bleach your hair –they will know if your hair is prepared for it or if it is not worth the damage.
4. Blonde hair requires maintenance
Understand that coloring your hair, especially bleaching your hair, is a long-term commitment. Expect going often to the salon, doing lots of hair masks, and choose the right products to treat it.
The rule of thumb is, trust the professional. Ask your colorist, they will know what’s possible without damaging your hair beyond repair.
