Chocolate is a super versatile ingredient, it is tasty, and it can be used in savory and sweet meals, but did you know you could use chocolate for your skin at home?

Chocolate is so tasty and nutritious that it was considered a gift of the God of Wisdom by mesoamerican civilizations dating back to more than 400 BC. It was considered so valuable that they actually used cacao seeds as a form of currency – pretty impressive, right? Of course, chocolate has gone through several changes and processes with time, and the kind of chocolate that we eat now is not the same as the first fermented beverages made with cocoa seeds that captivated the colonizers so much, but 70% or higher cocoa percentage is great for your health, it gives you an endorphin boost and it is packed with antioxidants. All that being said, did you know you can include chocolate in your skincare? These are some DIY ideas!

1. Chocolate face mask

Honey is a great addition to your chocolate face mask, as it is antibacterial and it also has anti-inflammator properties.

Mix all the ingredients together and apply it to your face for supple, hydrated skin. Let it sit for 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

I like to use this formula for my face, but it is actually safe as a body scrub as well. To make it mix all the ingredients together in a clean jar. Scoop a small amount and apply it to dry skin before showering, massage for a few minutes before washing it off. The mixture will last up to 2 weeks.

½ cup brown sugar
5 teaspoons yogurt
The juice of ½ lemon

1 teaspoon coconut oil

Method:

Combine all the ingredients until you get a paste. Then apply an even layer on your face and neck and let it act for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. This is a perfect recipe to brighten your skin, reduce acne inflammation, and hyperpigmentation and unclog your pores.
