2020 has put our resilience to the test. No matter your place in this world, for sure the pandemic has affected you. Here are some tips to make your 2021 the best year ever!
The pandemic has changed the way we live, entertain ourselves, work, shop and just about everything. Some people have lost loved ones and face masks, zoom fatigue, homeworking has become part of the new normal.
Having all this in mind, we can choose to wallow in our self-pity or we can try to look at the future with hope and positivity. This doesn’t mean that all the hardships of 2020 will disappear as if by magic, but we can still keep a positive attitude and try to overcome all obstacles because it’s what we humans do: survive and evolve.
There are plenty of sayings that we could think of “Look at the glass as half full instead of half empty,” “When life gives you lemons…”, and you may not know but a lot of them are universal –the same concept could be translated literally into many languages– and although they may sound like a cliché, they are universal for a reason: we have always been overcoming obstacles and 2020 should be no different.
It is not easy to look at the positive side of the pandemic, but here you have 5 tips to help you get back on your feet this 2021.
Spot new opportunities
Ask yourself if this situation can work to your advantage. For example, since I’ve been working from home and I have 2 spare hours I used to spend commuting, I made sure I used it for something that I couldn’t do in the past: I took as many online courses as I could, I read books I had been putting off reading and studied as much as I could. Find what works for you!
2020 is a lesson learned, do not cling to it
Think of all the obstacles you had to endure as stepping stones to get to where you want to be, think about how strong you were and that you were able to make it through.
Be thankful
Consider all the things pandemic prevented you from doing and you used to take it for granted and next time you see a friend at a bar appreciate the fact that you are there. Make a list of all you should be grateful for.
Take chances
Give small risks a chance instead of predicting negative outcomes without even trying. Try taking a new job in your free time, see if you like it.
Be kind to yourself
If you are having a rough time, instead of punishing yourself for not being able to cope with it, be your best friend. Focus on your triumphs and don’t over criticize yourself. Make a list of your strengths and throw modesty out the window.
What endings in 2020 are fresh starts in 2021? Being able to choose a positive attitude is one of the most powerful tools we have. Remember that is way harder to beat someone that never gives up.
Don’t ever give up.
