A group of Indian entrepreneurs in the city of Lachem make bamboo bottles to reduce plastic consumption. Several cities in India have declared themselves 100% plastic-free!
Sikkim was one of the first cities to declare its battle with plastic. Now, other cities have joined in. That is the case of Lachen which adds a plus: a group of entrepreneurs manufactures bamboo bottles as an alternative.
Lachem is a tourist place, at an altitude of about 3,000 meters, which, in some months of the year, is literally invaded by tourists. Tons of plastic bottles are left behind and this has stimulated several entrepreneurs to look for a solution.
Over the years, tourism has skyrocketed, and the town has built 30 hotels in the last 10-15 years.
