Have you ever felt like you can’t face the day? You are so tired you would stay in bed for 5 additional hours, but you can’t you have to carry on with your routine. Well, you might need to start developing an energy management plan.
Energy management explained
Think of yourself as one of your devices: you only have a limited amount of energy. You start your day with some battery –the amount varies depending on how much time you sleep, your age, medical conditions, stress levels and so on. Throughout the day your body spends energy performing your daily activities and you’ll eventually run out of it.
If you want to live a more energetic, happier life you can:
Eat good-quality food
You have to keep a balanced diet high in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy and whole grains for optimal energy. Avoid at all costs ultra-processed foods as it will make you feel more tired and are detrimental to your health in general.
You need at least seven hours of shut-eye if you want to avoid serious health conditions, it will make you age earlier and will consume all your energy.
Surround yourself with positive people
This doesn’t mean that if your friend is going through a rough time you have to turn your back on them. But people who are generally negative and complain too often will drain your energy –stay away from them, you can choose to be happy.
Exercise relieves stress and tension, it makes you stronger and produces endorphins –the hormones that trigger a positive feeling in the body.
Follow your passion every day
If you have a special talent –like playing an instrument or painting– or there is something that you enjoy doing a lot, make the effort to do it at least once a day.
Think good thoughts for others, constantly judging others can cause us to judge ourselves as well, and those feelings are utterly exhausting. Instead, make eye contact, smile at strangers, try to understand people and their situation.
Once you are aware of some of the things that sabotage your energy you can start taking baby steps to become happier. If what upsets you is the clutter in your house, try not to organize it all in a day, start by your closet, and clear out each week a different place. I promise someday you’ll finish.
