Is it possible to house a wind farm in the middle of the city, and do it without almost anyone knowing about it? The answer is yes
The French start-up New Wind has created a tree-shaped wind turbine called Abre à Vent ('Tree to Wind'), which could change the landscape of our cities and their energy supply.
It is an artificial tree that, thanks to its shape and size, is perfectly camouflaged among the trees of the city and takes advantage of small air currents. Its green plastic leaves, called Aeroleaf, are in fact wind turbines dependent on a steel trunk that function as a local network of small silent wind turbines.
The blades-turbines take advantage of the slightest breeze of air, producing energy even with winds of less than two meters per second, something that could represent the solution to the intermittence of wind energy.
