Keeping a positive body image is as hard as it gets as we usually tend to be hard on ourselves. These tips will help you boost it in no time!
Feeling good about yourself has nothing to do with how you look. It is actually related to how you see yourself, no matter what others see in you. And tackling negative thoughts can be quite challenging, so these tips will help you boost your self-confidence!
Write 10 things you like about yourself
When you talk about someone else, it is surely really easy to list the things you like about them. Then why is it so hard to list the things you like about yourself? Take the time to write down a list of your strengths, of the things you've done for others, all those things that make you likable.
Challenge your thoughts
“It’s a very powerful experience to no longer say mean things to yourself in the mirror,” says Lori Osachy, MSS, LCSW, owner of The Body Image Counseling Center and the Text2BWell positive body image program. Opt instead to think of your body as a whole rather than focusing on body parts. Next time you stare at yourself in the mirror, challenge your negative thoughts.
Start your day with a mantra
“For example, saying, ‘I am more than my body. I am kind. I’m a hard worker and dedicated friend’ can be helpful when starting the day,” says Laura Fonseca, MSW, LCSW, a therapist specializing in eating disorders. “The more we say these powerful mantras to ourselves, the easier it will be for our brain to accept and believe them.”
