What is Hybrid Yoga? Is this the right yoga approach for you?

You may have heard about Aerial Yoga, Acro-Yoga, and many other non-traditional yoga styles. Those catchy names may have caught your attention, but are they really the best way for you to practice yoga?

Whether you are a traditional yogi or someone who would like to try a new yoga style, we can all use a break from a Vinyasa. These new creative styles will help you activate new muscle groups, and also provide a new perspective to your practice.  

You will strengthen your practice by allowing yourself to try new things, or Hybrid Yoga may be the beginning of your journey into becoming a yogi.

1. Aerial Yoga

Dance, Pilates, and Yoga come together to create Aerial Yoga. Originated in California, Aerial Yoga is practiced hanging over the floor on a silk hammock. The fundamental idea is to make you feel weightless and be able to move your body more easily while learning to play with gravity.

Since a lot of the poses involve inversions, Aerial yoga can have a positive effect on your circulatory system.

2. CrossFit Yoga

CrossFit Yoga is the perfect balance between weight training and recovery yoga-based exercises.

Many of us think yoga is just “a bit of stretching”, and practicing it will not help us up to strength. Also, refer to as dynamic yoga, CrossFit Yoga is the perfect balance between weight training and recovery yoga-based exercises.

A typical CrossFit Yoga class will include some sun salutations mixed up with strength-building movements, and finish up with a cool down and stretching.

3. Acro-Yoga

Acro-yoga can be a wonderful practice for couples, it can help grow intimacy in a different way.

The closest you can get to gymnastics while practicing yoga. Acro-yoga is a 3 people discipline, there is always a base, a flyer, and a spotter. The principle revolves around one person creating the foundation for another one to practice yoga poses, and a third person to ensure alignment and adequate balance of the poses.
