Want to live longer? Avoid these four foods

Want to live longer? These are the foods you should avoid

Living a long and healthy life is everyone's dream, right? And with the pandemic still ravaging this year, we are more focused on healthy eating than ever.

We all know which foods we should have more of leafy greens, beans, and pulses, lots of water, fruit, and veg. But what about those that are bad for us? Today we list four foods that you should avoid if you want to live a long and healthy life, according to scientists.

Keep in mind that we are all for sustainable changes. You may want one of these foods or maybe you're traveling ad have no choice. It's not about beating yourself up, it is about focusing on healthy foods and crowding out the unhealthy ones. You can still have them, of course, just think of them as an occasional treat or a celebration. Just don't buy them to have at home.

1. Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

Sugar-Sweetened Beverages

Would you ever put ten teaspoons of sugar on your toast or cereal? Probably not. But that’s how much sugar you consume on average when you drink a can of soda. It is estimated that 50% of our caloric gain is directly attributable to the empty calories obtained from sodas and boxed juices.

2. Fried foods

Fried food

We all love eating a big burger with french fries and onion rings or a corn dog maybe, but this type of food can be really harmful if you eat it quite often. Fried foods are high in unhealthy fats and calories and some studies have linked fried foods to many health problems such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease. So try to avoid some fast-food restaurants that serve this food, like McDonald’s or Burger King, and bake your own french fries and chicken nuggets right at home.

3. Packaged Sweets

Packaged Sweets

Cookies, candy bars, granola bars, yogurts, and even energy bars all deliver a dose of sugar. Research shows that the longest-living and healthiest people in the world enjoy dessert occasionally, usually baking cookies and cakes themselves. It's entirely different stocking your pantry with tubs of cookies to enjoy while catching up on your new favorite series. Avoiding packaged desserts is the first step to take to a healthier life.

4. Salty snacks

Salty snacks

Almost all chips and crackers deliver high doses of salt, preservatives, and highly processed grains that quickly metabolize to sugar. They’ve also been carefully designed to be addictive, with a perfect balance of sal and crunchiness to them. Avoid.

5. Processed meat

Processed meat

A recent study followed more than half a million people for decades, found that those who consumed high amounts of sausages, salami, bacon, and other highly processed meats had the highest rates of cancers and heart disease. They may provide a quick meal, but at what cost?

6. Energy drinks

You can drink one energy beverage occasionally but actually, these caffeinated beverages are terrible for you. According to experts, the amount of caffeine these beverages contain can cause arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat. Moreover, excessive caffeine intake in extreme and rare cases can cause death.
