1. No two pastries are alike

Although the food is common in various geographies, not all pastries are the same.

The Asian version of a pastry is characterized by an extremely thin and normally crunchy mass. They are typical of the cuisine of India, Pakistan or Tibet.

The Indian samosas arrived in India via the trade routes linking with China and Central Asia. They were easy to prepare around a fire when traders stopped on the way. They were then stored in saddlebags and eaten as a snack the next day. There are several century cookbooks that mention samosas.

3. How they are made

The exterior is a dough made of wheat flour and yeast, seed oil and sometimes seasoned with cumin. A quick version of samosas are those made with phyllo dough. Whilst not exactly like the original, this dough is easier to find at stores and will save time.

The samosas are usually filled with vegetables and seasoned with a mixture of spices such as masala, turmeric and ginger among others. They are often served with a sauce, such as chutney, yogurt sauce or a hot chilli sauce.
