10 Bad habits that will ruin your skin

If you are fond of supple, glowy skin, you have to take care of it. These are 10 bad habits that will ruin your skin.

Over the years I've come to realize that skincare does not have to do with budget or multistep routines, it actually has to do with adopting a routine, which could consist of only 3 steps, and sticking to it.

If you love glowy, supple and dewy complexion, stay away from these 10 bad habits that will ruin your skin.

1. Drinking alcohol regularly

Drinking alcohol regularly

Drinking too much alcohol means drinking more than one glass a day. If you are having more than a cocktail a day, it will make your skin suffer.

Alcohol increases inflammatory agents in the bloodstream, this can cause skin sagging over time.

2. Skipping SPF

Skipping SPF

There is no excuse you can possibly use for skipping SPF. It is the number one anti-aging skincare product, and it also wards off dangerous conditions. Reapply every two hours every day even if you are staying home.

3. Using your phone too much

Using your phone can lead to something called "tech neck," the posture you adopt when you look at your computer or your phone can cause your neck to wrinkle. Here's how to avoid tech neck.

Resting your chin or cheek against your cell can lead to breakouts -even if your phone is clean, the friction and heat are enough to make your skin break out -go for a headset instead.

4. Neglecting your neck and chest

Your neck and chest are also skin and they also deserve some attention. Under no circumstances should your skincare stop at your jawline. Make sure you cleanse, tone, moisturize and apply sunscreen to your neck and chest area -it is also very vulnerable to photoaging.

5. Not cleansing your makeup tools

Dirty beauty blenders or makeup brushes can clog your pores and cause bacterial infections. Once every two weeks make sure you cleanse your makeup tools and let them dry.

6. Over-exfoliating

Over-exfoliating

Your skin functions as a barrier that protects you from external pollutants, over-exfoliating can compromise that function. This leads to irritation, bacterial infections, redness, and leaky skin. Do not exfoliate more than once a week, and go for chemical exfoliators, because they are less prone to cause microtears to your skin.

7. Going to bed too late

Sleeping, together with SPF is the ultimate youth elixir -ask J.Lo. We are the only beings on earth that willingly deprive ourselves of sleep -this leads to skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. It is paramount for your skin to enter repair mode when you are sleeping.

8. Going to bed with dirty skin

Cleansing your skin is paramount for a healthy complexion. Makeup, oil and the dirt built up during the day can clog your pores and cause acne, irritation and hinder the absorption of any other skincare product. So make sure to wash your face before you go to sleep.

9. Applying too many products

Skin overloading is a thing. There are products that are not compatible with one another or that meet the same skin needs, make sure you ask a dermatologist if for a skincare routine that is tailored to your skin type. If your skin is dull or irritated, it might be a case of overloading.

10. Sunbathing

I'm sorry to tell you but sunbathing is a thing of the past. Continued sun exposure will thicken your skin and cause dark spots. Overall, tanning can cause premature aging and skin cancer.

If you like sunkissed skin, go for self-tanning lotions and makeup.
